HISTORICAL MUSEUM OF THE POPULAR CULTURE
"AUGUSTO MONTORI"

A museum where the historical roots of Anguillara are relived

Anguillara is a small town on the lake of Bracciano (a few minutes from Rome). Many years ago it was a village of peasant and fishermen but today there are also other many activities such as tourism which should became the main resource of a very important historical, archaelogical and naturalist territory.
In 1992 the Cultural Association "SABATE" founded the historical Museum of Peasant Civilization and Popular Culture (dedicated to Augusto Montori who was its founder) in order to preserve the Cultural and historical traditional identity of Anguillara. It was possible to get a Museum because many inhabitants of Anguillara gave work implements, machineries, houschold utensils, documents and forefathers' photos.
In this Museum all the objects show us the difficult conditions of life of many years ago and thus we can see the changement of tecnology in a century. The Museum (in july 1996 it was transferred from via Umberto I to the Torrione Orsini in the new seat gave by Comune of Angufllara) isn't the only activity of the "SABATE" Association.
The "SABATE" Association is revaluing the historical centre from a tawn-planning standpoint and with cultural festivals placed in picturesque alleys and small squares near the lake and it is discovering again the Roman and Etruscan archaelogical monuments that we can see all over the territory. The culture of our territory has also a cookery tradition and we can find in the restaurants many dishes chiefly made of fishes such as pikes, eels, perches and "coregone" a local fish. The "SABATE" Association has furthered many gastonomic competitions and the restaurant are able to cook fish in thousands of ways to satisfy the most delicate palates. The purpose of the "SABATE" Association is to promove Anguillara as a place where tourists can enjoy of natural and historical beauties and spend a good and interesting holiday.

The Museum of Peasant Civdization and Popular Culture "Augusto Montori" situated in the "Torrione Orsini" of Anguillara preserves important objects such as fishermen, wood-men, stone-cutters, peasants, joiners, bakers, shoemakers and shepherds'work implements.
The Museum shows us the reconstruction of a kitchen of many years ago and many homely objects. It dedicates a space to the historical fraternities of "San Giovanni decollato" of Anguillara, the Red and the Black fraternities which are always present in local processions.
